The Council of Europe

Sir, – My admiration for Frank McNally knows no bounds. However, while it’s true that Labour’s William Norton was tánaiste when a member of the Irish delegation to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg in 1950, Éamon de Valera, another member of the group, was then the leader of Fianna Fáil, not as stated by your diarist, “taoiseach” (An Irishman’s Diary, March 23rd). At the time, that position was held by Fine Gael’s John A Costello. – Yours, etc,

PAUL DELANEY,

Dalkey, Co Dublin.
