It’s fair to say skincare is something of a crowded market, with a multiplicity of products available at all price points, each promising to work wonders on a wide range of skin problems.
Calecim Professional uses patented stem cell technology to restore and repair skin. Its stem cell compound, PTT-6, has been shown to regenerate skin, promote cell turnover, decrease inflammation and build vital skin collagen in a number of clinical trials.
These results have been replicated in the clinic, says Edel Woods of Ora Clinic in Sandyford. Woods has been using the Calecim Professional system in her clinic for several years, noting it has become a favourite among her clients.
“In this crowded market, Calecim is unique for a few reasons,” Dr Woods says. Woods explains that unlike many other products that use plant stem cells or mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow or adipose (fat) tissue, Calecim is derived from umbilical cord lining mesenchymal stem cells. “These cells are in a youthful, highly active state and secrete a rich variety of growth factors and cytokines that promote skin regeneration,” she says.

In the clinic, “fantastic” results have been experienced by Ora’s clients, she says, many of whom are experiencing the negative impact of menopause on their skin.

“As we transition through menopause, the skin undergoes significant changes driven by declining oestrogen levels,” she explains. This impacts collagen production, leading to loss of firmness, elasticity and volume, while also slowing oil production, which contributes to increased dryness and dehydration. “Focusing on hydration, barrier repair and collagen stimulation becomes essential to maintain skin health, resilience and radiance during this time.”
Exosomes have become something of a buzzword in skincare in recent years and are being lauded for their regenerative properties. The reality, she says, is that exosomes vary greatly between brands in terms of purity, efficacy and origin. “This means we need to be cautious and avoid being drawn in by the term alone. It’s important to look closely at what each exosome product is designed to do, its safety profile and how it is sourced.”
The difference with Calecim Professional, Dr Woods says, is that it doesn’t directly use isolated exosomes, rather the stem cells it uses naturally release a wide range of exosomes, giving it a much greater functionality. Calecim Professional is a “conditioned media” rather than live cells or isolated exosomes, she explains. “Essentially, it provides a soup of nourishing ingredients – growth factors, cytokines, proteins [and] peptides – to the skin that support overall skin health by encouraging regeneration, reducing inflammation, boosting hydration and enhancing repair. This makes it more effective and well-rounded for skin rejuvenation.”
In addition, Calecim Professional is backed by rigorous clinical research and ethically sourced, she says, helping to overcome many of the concerns associated with exosome-based products on the market. “Calecim has been using the same one red deer umbilical cord since its inception. Not all exosome or stem cell-derived products offer this level of traceability or ethical clarity.”

The results speak for themselves, Dr Woods says. “It’s improved results of our proprietary treatments like the Power Facial where we blend Calecim with Skinpen Microneedling and Broad Band Light (BBL) – clients are achieving firmer, brighter, less creased skin quicker.”
Fantastic results are also being seen with the Calecim Professional‘s Recovery Night Complex for clients with sensitive, aggravated skin, such as rosacea patients, Dr Woods adds. “The mask calms the skin from the first use, which is amazing for people who have often struggled for a long time.”
Róisín Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Private Clinics in Donegal and Dublin, says: “Having been so impressed by the genuine science, new technologies and ongoing research and development offered by the Calecim range, we became one of the first medical clinic stockists in Ireland, and to this day we continue to be impressed by the ease of use and results reported by our patients.”

Róisín and her sister Deirdre Fitzgerald have been using Calecim Professional’s Serum to drastically reduce downtime after their most invasive skin procedures for several years. “We offer immediate application of the most concentrated product (Professional Serum) following Skinpen microneedling and Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling,” Róisín explains. “With years of experience doing this in our own clinics, we know the downtime, redness and inflammation post-procedure dramatically improve. These benefits, along with the further stimulation of collagen provided by the product, further augment results for our patients.” The home skincare range, meanwhile, is an effective option for people who prefer to avoid retinoid products, she adds.
