The tender process for Ireland's bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup will cost €1.5 million.

Ireland are expected to provide a detailed programme to cover match schedules, venues, accommodation, transport, security and a communications infrastructure as a minimum requirement for what chairman of the Oversight Board, Dick Spring, hopes will be "a superlative" bid.

The role of the Oversight Board is to approve bid strategy, oversee progress, liaise with the IRFU and both Governments in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and ensure the delivery of a bid capable of securing the tournament.

Former Irish captain Brian O'Driscoll and fullback Hugo McNeil are also members of the board.

The GAA has agreed to make its stadia available for the staging of matches and it will now be up to the bid team to put together a specific match schedule in line with the requirements of World Rugby.

Tender submissions are required by February 2017. It is expected the decision on the 2023 competition will be taken in May 2017.
