Sir, – Further to “Dublin’s dumpers have ‘no sense of pride’, says council waste chief” (News, February 11th), I’d argue that Dublin City Council (DCC) has no sense of pride in the communities it is meant to represent and serve.
I live in Dublin 5 and over the years I’ve seen public bins removed, public bins not emptied on a regular basis, bags of leaves not collected, local playgrounds neglected, footpaths crumbling and potholed roads that aren’t repaired or are insufficiently repaired.
As a local resident and a payer of local property tax, I want my area to be the best it can be.
I engage with the DCC, either through email or its citizen hub, on a regular basis on local issues that need to be dealt with.

My experience is that the council is slow to reply and even slower to act.
After the February public holiday, it took three emails with photos and two emails to local councillors to get DCC to empty overflowing bins by the local shops and surrounding area. This is a regular occurrence.
We are quick to blame individuals for littering but DCC needs to fulfil its responsibilities to keep our streets clean and our bins emptied. – Yours, etc,
