IBM yesterday said it would pay $1 billion (€1.12 billion) to buy the database software business of Informix, which has an operation in Ireland. IBM said the acquisition would strengthen its distributed database business and bolster the company in its battle with rival software maker Oracle. Informix employs 150 people at Ballymount in Dublin, while IBM employs around 4,500 people in Ireland.
