Microsoft Office goes free on iOS

Android users watch this space: Office apps are on the way

The Microsoft Office experience for the iPad has already been pretty decent. Users were free to view Word, Powerpoint and Excel files with an option to create and edit documents via an Office 365 subscription. In a very clever move, Microsoft has not just made these features completely free but has also launched a compact smartphone- friendly version of these for the iPhone and iPod touch (the existing all-in-one Office Mobile app is being retired). The icing on the cake is a partnership with Dropbox; open, edit and save Office files to your Dropbox account. Android users watch this space: Office apps are on the way.
