Could it happen here? One bank in Britain has told customers with a current account that they are no longer wanted. Investment bank, Close Brothers, is also withdrawing debit and credit cards and anyone with an overdraft has to pay it off as soon as possible.
However, not everyone is being told to go elsewhere. Customers with more than £25,000 sterling, will be able to maintain their accounts via an offshore operation which the company bought last year.
It follows a review of banking operations. Customers have been told some services provided to them are not "economically viable". No, it definitely could never happen here . . .
