As a live experience, Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer and Paul Frick are second to none, a lean, mean, superbly tuned three- pronged machine, capable of swinging between classical, house and techno without dropping a stitch. As is often the case with many acts when the DJ Kicks series dons call, the trio's contribution, recorded at Berlin's Watergate club, shows different sides and edges to their sound. Their quest for a groove to define the mix brings together slow-burning sounds from Jan Jelinek, Theo Parrish and the soulful rub of William Oneyeabor's Better Change Your Mind ), before more dancefloor-fixated tracks from Max Graef ( Bummse ), Brandt Brauer Frick themselves (the heady kick of Bommel ) and Bok Bok withTom Trago ( Vector ) move things on apace. Throw in a few eclectic twists and turns from Machinedrum, Thundercat and Dean Blunt, and you've a solid set. brandtbrauerfrick.de
