Seven things to do this week
TODAY Open auditions are being held for three female singers who, if successful, will become part of a brand new crossover classical/pop group, a kind of posh Spice Girls. You must be 18-24 and don't have to be classically trained but should have a "pure voice". Perform a piece of your choice for the judges and wait for the phone to ring. Green Room, Holiday Inn, Pearse Street, Dublin, 11.30 a.m.-4.30 p.m. Details: 01-6703666.
TOMORROW Rain or shine, the hugely popular HB Ice-cream Sunday which raises money for Down's Syndrome Ireland takes place today, when the company donates thousands of blocks of ice cream for fund-raising parties all over the country. If you want to attend one of the parties or just make a donation to this worthwhile cause, call 1890-373737.
MONDAY The European Broadcasting Union Discovery series continues with a concert broadcast live to listeners in 18 European countries. It's a celebration of little-known music from Ireland including the 18th-century Caractacus attributed to the Earl of Mornington. National Concert Hall, 7 p.m. Admission free. No booking.
TUESDAY If it's ages since you have been to a good, old-fashioned musical, the Belfast Operatic Company is presenting Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun. Grand Opera House, Great Victoria Street, Belfast. Tickets £5-£16.50 sterling. Booking: 048-90-241919.
WEDNESDAY Liquid Light isn't just any old club night; along with the music and dance are cutting-edge visuals by the DIT photographic degree year. The Hub, Eustace Street, Temple Bar. 8 p.m. -3 a.m. Tickets: €7 from 01-6359991.
THURSDAY The 9th Galway Early Music Festival has European Cultural Unity and Diversity as its theme, and tonight's opening concert features Kathleen Loughnane on harp and Alec Finn on Bouzouki. St Nicholas's Collegiate Church, Galway. 7.30 p.m. Tickets €15/€10 from 091-704845, www.galwayearlymusic.com or Mulligan's, Middle Street, Galway.
FRIDAY C'mon Everybody! It's four years since the last People In Need Telethon, and this year the reality show that locks seven "celebrities" into a house that doubles as a radio station is one of the main attractions. The Charity 252 Reality Radio show climaxes tonight. Donations: 1850-679294.
