After the split, when you've sold the mansion and the racehourse what could be more dreary that picking your way through your possessions and packing them off to the nearest auction house. That's what statuesque Californian Amber Diekel thought when it came to finally selling off the remaining contents of Amberleigh House, the horsey Kildare mansion she once shared with American businessman David Doane. "If you have to sell your things you should at least try to make a party of it," says the sparky Ms Diekel so she has hired Goffs - famous for its horse sales - for the next three days and is busy attaching price tags to over 300 household lots from bits of china for a few quid to an Anglo-Indian rosewood armoire for £48,000 (€60,947). "It's a fancy yard sale," she says, adding that her friends are rallying around her to help her price things. The bar, she says, will be open, serving cocktails. When she lived in Ireland she and David were famous for the parties they gave. She now lives in Ecuador with her new partner and their four-month-old twin girls, and she hopes some day to divide her time between South America and Ireland, "I won't have Amberleigh House, but maybe someday I'll have Amberleigh Cottage," she says. There will be viewing in Goffs tomorrow and Saturday with the sale on Sunday.
