A crackdown on late-night drinking and illegal drug abuse in Salthill led to a reduction in crime figures for the resort last year. The latest official figures show that reported crime decreased by 16.6 per cent in the Salthill Garda district, which covers most of the west side of Galway city.
The Garda figures also show a drop of about 9 per cent for the rest of the city, including the city centre and Eyre Square.
