Port-Au-Prince - About 40 people are feared to have been drowned after a boat carrying passengers between Haiti's mainland and La Gonave island sank on Saturday, according to a Haitian Coast Guard official.

Six survivors and 16 bodies had been found so far, the official, Mr Leon Charles, said.

About 50 people were believed to have been aboard the vessel.
