The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, will give the go-ahead for the long-awaited demolition of the Ballymun flats this Saturday as residents prepare a series of celebrations to mark the end of the high-rise neighbourhood.
Large crowds are expected for the dismantling of the 15-storey Pearse tower by a huge crane with a paegentry of children's performances, live music and readings planned to commemorate the demise of what many dubbed a "high-rise hell".
The demolitions ceremony kicks off this Saturday at 6.00 p.m. at the plaza outside Ballymun's McDonagh tower.
