AIB sued for slander over customer claim on bank draft accusation

A man who claimed he was accused of bullying a bank official into giving him a €5,000 bank draft has sued AIB for slander.

A man who claimed he was accused of bullying a bank official into giving him a €5,000 bank draft has sued AIB for slander.

Paul Donohue, a maintenance technician, Finglas East, Dublin, told the Circuit Civil Court yesterday that a bank manager at the Finglas branch had phoned him and blamed him for bullying a staff member there. He said Gabrielle Grehan also told him he was not welcome back in the branch as he was barred.

Paul Fogarty, for AIB, asked Mr Justice Matthew Deery to dismiss Mr Donohue’s claim on the basis he had failed to prove that any remark alleged to have been made about him by Ms Grehan had been published to anyone else.

Mr Justice Deery said he would hear the evidence of two other bank officials today before ruling on the case.
