Anglo Irish Bank today unveiled plans to raise new funds through a placing of around 35.7 million new shares.

The new shares represent around 5 per cent of the company's market capitalisation, but the final price will depend on demand.

Group chief executive David Drumm said that based on current trading performance the bank does not anticipate any reduction to the existing market EPS consensus for 2007 of around 115.5 cents.

He said the new capital being raised in the placing will put the bank in an "excellent" position to deliver strong growth and continue to generate superior shareholder returns well into the future.
