A suicide bomber killed seven people near a Shia mosque in the volatile Iraqi city of Baquba today, police said.

A suicide bomber killed seven people near a Shia mosque in the volatile Iraqi city of Baquba today, police said.

Another 13 people were wounded in the attack, carried out by an attacker wearing a vest packed with explosives.

It came as worshippers gathered to observe Ashura, one of the holiest events on the Shia religious calendar, in the Shifta neighbourhood of southwest Baquba, 65km (40 miles) north of Baghdad.
