Derry's role in the second World War Battle of the Atlantic 60 years ago will be remembered during a weekend maritime festival on the river Foyle.
The Naval Service flagship, LE Eithne and naval vessels from Canada, Belgium and Poland are among visiting craft participating in the event, which opened last night and continues tomorrow.
A wreath-laying ceremony for those who died in the second World War will take place today, while a service of commemoration will be held tomorrowin St Columb's Cathedral at 11am.
Entitled "Foyle Days", the festival aims to celebrate Derry's maritime heritage. Tours have been planned for the Harbour Museum, Workhouse Museum, Millennium Forum and Waterside Theatre, and exhibitions will take place on the Queen's Quay.
Water activities include a traditional boat rally at the Foyle Pontoon, sailing tuition at Creggan Country Park and angling tuition with the Loughs Agency.
