A DISPUTE that threatened bin collection services across Dublin has been settled after Siptu members voted to accept a proposal from the Labour Relations Commission (LRC).
The threat of industrial action followed a decision by management at Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to outsource its waste collection to private operator Panda.
Waste collection workers in all four local authorities in Dublin had balloted for industrial action following the decision.
The settlement includes a redundancy and compensation package for some staff and the redeployment of others.
The council will continue to provide a waste collection service to a small number of households and council depots that currently use bagged waste. The rest of the household service will be outsourced to Panda.
In a statement issued yesterday, the council acknowledged the dedicated service given by staff involved in waste collection over many years.
