All-Ireland bog-snorkelling champion Julia Galvin is hoping to win a gold medal at the world championships in Wales tomorrow.

All-Ireland bog-snorkelling champion Julia Galvin is hoping to win a gold medal at the world championships in Wales tomorrow.

A biology teacher from Listowel, Co Kerry, who describes herself as the "First Lady of Irish bog-snorkelling" she said she was counting on her special "Saturday Night Fever" swimming stroke to see off the competition. "I roll my hands out in front of me a bit like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever so I think that will help me."

Competitors at the event in Llanwrtyd have to complete two lengths of a 60 metre trench cut though a peat bog using a snorkel. The Kerry woman practices in a bog in Listowel but says her favourite training ground is in Granard.
