IRA dissidents are believed to have been responsible for an explosion which blew a large crater in a south Armagh road yesterday. It is understood the bomb had been intended for a British army-RUC patrol.

No one was hurt in the blast, on the main Newry-Forkhill road near the village of Drumintee. The Continuity IRA and Provisional IRA dissidents who resigned from the organisation last October both have a presence in the area.

However, it is understood yesterday's bomb was the work of the group which calls itself the "True IRA".
