Two teenage boys underwent emergency surgery today after being stabbed during a fight in West Belfast.

Two teenage boys underwent emergency surgery today after being stabbed during a fight in West Belfast.

One of the boys aged 15, is in a critical condition while the second is a 14-year-old who is described as very seriously ill.

The boys were injured after a fight involving a number of youths broke out at Ardmonagh Gardens in the Ballymurphy area shortly before midnight.

Superintendent Ms Maggie Hunter said around 10 youths were in the group but not all of them were fighting.

She said that after the incident they made off towards the Whiterock Road area. A number of witnesses have spoken to police but Supt Hunter urged those who had not, to come forward immediately.

She revealed that two small knives have since been recovered from the scene.
