A British appeal for Kosovo refugees has raised £3 million sterling in just 24 hours, organisers said yesterday.

"We're delighted with the figure. It's the best response we've ever had," Ms Juliet Sober, a spokeswoman for the 12 charities participating in the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal, said.

The last DEC appeal raised £3.5 million for victims of floods in Bangladesh over two weeks last September.
