Nairobi - A coup attempt in Burundi sent shock waves through a summit on the country's civil war yesterday, delivering a warning that ethnic extremists would do anything to avoid compromise at the peace talks.

Soldiers from the minority ethnic Tutsi community began their second coup attempt since April on the eve of the meeting in Arusha, Tanzania, where regional heads of state are hoping for a breakthrough on ending the eight-year conflict.
