Lille - A strike in which seamen have blocked ferry traffic at the French port of Calais has caused long delays for lorries and holidaymakers travelling between Britain and France.

Talks aimed at settling the dispute between the seamen and the SeaFrance ferry company ended without reaching agreement last night.

Queues of lorries in France of up to six hours at the toll booths were reported by the Channel Tunnel operator, Eurotunnel Plc.
