The North's Equality Commission has stressed that any new office of a children's commissioner should not be a substitute for direct consultation with children.

In evidence to the Stormont Committee of the Centre Ms Joan Harbison, the head of the Equality Commission, said she was "greatly worried" children were not being allowed speak for themselves.
