A child was killed and at least three others were injured in a mine blast on today in a northwestern Macedonian village.
It appears the children, all of Macedonian nationality, activated the mine after finding it in the village of Brnovica, near the northwestern town of Tetovo.
The northwestern Macedonian region is the scene of ongoing clashes between the government troops and ethnic Albanian guerrillas of the National Liberation army (NLA).
The NLA launched an insurgency in February that threatened to escalate into all-out civil war, but surrendered its weapons to NATO troops in September under a NATO-brokered peace accord.
