Eamonn Collins was today confirmed as the new manager of St Patrick's Athletic. He succeeds Pat Dolan who departed for Cork City last Friday.
Collins (37) will be a familiar face to both players and fans at the Inchicore club having served as Dolan's assistant for the last four years.
The former Blackpool, Southampton, Colchester and Monaghan United midfielder will come face to face with former boss Pat Dolan when St Patrick's travel south to Turner's Cross on the opening day of the season.
Former Manchester United midfielder and St Patrick's legend Martin Russell (35) will serve as Collins' assistant. Russell hung up his playing boots in January following a distinguished four year association with the club.
Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr, who led the Richmond Park outfit to league titles in 1989-90 and 1995-96, today described Collins' appointment as a "brave and courageous decision."
