Colombia today sacked 25 army officers after a military investigation implicated the armed forces in the disappearance of a group of young men.

The men's bodies later turned up in mass graves hundreds of miles away.

The measures announced by President Alvaro Uribe and his military commanders came after repeated criticism from rights groups that Colombia's US-backed security forces were involved in deaths of civilians who were later reported as guerrillas killed in combat.
