Five members of the committee visited Ireland from August 31st to September 9th, 1998. It was the committee's second periodic visit to Ireland. The members who visited were:
Mr Ivan Zakine (France), president of the committee and president of the Societe Generale des Prisons et de Legislation Criminelle;
Mr Pieter Stoffelen (Netherlands), lawyer and chairman of the Complaints Committee of the Police Force in the Flevoland region of Holland;
Mr Jon Bjarman (Iceland), former prison chaplain of the National Church of Iceland;
Mr Demetrios Stylianides (Cyprus), lawyer and former president of the Supreme Court of Cyprus;
Ms Pirkko Lahti (Finland), psychologist and director of the Finnish Association for Mental Health.
