Rome - The majority of Communist Refoundation deputies do not agree with the party's hardline decision to withdraw support from Prime Minister Romano Prodi's government, a senior party member said yesterday.

Ms Ersilia Salvato, a senator, told reporters on her way out of a meeting of Refoundation parliamentarians: "It's emerging clearly that the majority of deputies does not support the decisions of the [party's] political committee and indeed considers them to be very serious."
