Congress party faces split

New Delhi - India's Congress party faced a dangerous split yesterday before general elections after three senior leaders ousted from its ranks said they would form a new party. Relief over the mutineers' expulsion was short-lived as Ms Sonia Gandhi, who resigned as party president after open criticism by the rebels, continued to ignore pleas to return.
