Thumbs down:A recent commercial for Nutella broke advertising rules by overplaying the nutritional value of the high-fat, high-sugar spread, the British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled.
The TV advert, which showed mothers giving children Nutella on toast for breakfast, "misleadingly" over-emphasised the spread's nutritional contribution to a balanced breakfast, the watchdog said. The ad included a voice-over saying: "Surprisingly, each jar contains 52 hazelnuts, the equivalent of a glass of skimmed milk and some cocoa." The ASA said that, while it understood small quantities of sugar and fat were recommended as part of a balanced diet, Nutella had a high sugar and fat content.
