Court delay complainants draw criticism from judge

A High Court judge yesterday criticised those who complained about delays in the court system

A High Court judge yesterday criticised those who complained about delays in the court system. Mr Justice Johnson said that for years the courts had been subjected to a great deal of abuse because people could not get their cases heard in a reasonable time.

Citing the small number of personal injuries cases listed over the coming days, he said solicitors were not taking up the invitation to secure a date to have their cases heard. He made his remarks when told that there was only one personal injuries case in the court list for yesterday with the result that three judges, including himself, were free.

Yesterday, at Mr Justice Johnson's request, a letter was sent to the director-general of the Law Society pointing out that solicitors were not taking up the invitation to get a date to have their cases heard.
