An Army bomb disposal team has made safe two viable improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Roxborough, Co Limerick.

Earlier on Saturday the Defence Forces deployed the bomb disposal detachment following a request from gardaí.

The specialist unit arrived on scene just after 4pm in the afternoon. Subsequently, in an effort to ensure public safety, a number of houses were evacuated and a cordon was put in place for the duration of the hazardous operation.

The devices were eventually removed to a secure military installation for further examination and the scene was declared safe at 5.45pm.
