A man in his 50s is to be sentenced in May after he pleaded guilty to two counts of raping a boy in Co Cork more than a decade ago.

Anthony Moynihan, of Crocane, Rostellan, Midleton, also entered a guilty plea on two counts of sexually assaulting the boy when he appeared before a sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Cork on Monday.

The court heard that the abuse occurred at Moynihan’s former residence in Upper Aghada in the east of the county between 2006 and 2008, when the victim was aged between nine and 11.

Ken Murray, solicitor for the accused, entered a guilty plea on behalf of his client, who the court heard had recently had a tracheotomy which had impacted on his voice.

Moynihan will be sentenced on May 7th next in Dublin. He was remanded on bail pending the compilation of medical reports.

The victim of the abuse, now aged 22, was in court along with his partner and his father. He will prepare a victim impact statement that will be read out at the sentencing hearing.
