A man in his late twenties has been arrested following a robbery at a Post Office in Blackrock, Co Dublin this afternoon.

A man entered the Post Office at approximately 4pm and threatened staff with what is believed to have been an imitation handgun – although this is subject to technical examination.

There were no injuries but a cash amount,believed to have been in the region of €9,000, was taken from the Post Office in the Frascati Shopping Centre.

An attempt was subsequently made to flag down passing vehicles.

Gardaí responding to the incident arrived on the scene and made an arrest on Frascati Road. Cash and an imitation firearm were recovered nearby.

The arrested man is currently being detained at Blackrock Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
