Gardaí have identified the man whose body was found in a refuse chute in a Cork city apartment complex.
Gardaí have confirmed that the dead man was 59-year-old Liam Manley. He was a long term resident at the Simon Community in Cork who was originally from Bakers Road, Gurranebraher on the city's north side.
Mr Manley’s body was found in a refuse chute at the North Gate Apartment Complex on Bachelor’s Quay at around 5.30pm on Monday by a maintenance man who went to check on the chute.
Refuse was building up in the chute and when the maintenance man went to clear the blockage, the body of the deceased, which had begun to decompose, emerged from the chute.
Gardaí say CCTV footage and forensic evidence will play a vital part in their investigation into the the death of Mr Manley whom they believe was assaulted in the complex before his body was dumped.
