A man in his late 20s has been arrested in connection with two bodies which were found in a burnt -out car in Dundalk, Co Louth in 2012.

The remains of Anthony Burnett and Joseph Redmond were found in a burnt-out stolen VW Golf at Ravensdale Forest Park, Dundalk, Co Louth more than two years ago, on March 7th 2012.

Mr Burnett (31) of Croke Villas, Dublin 3 and Mr Redmond (25) of Ballybough House, Ballybough, Dublin 3 were last seen in Dublin in the early afternoon of March 7th 2012. Their bodies were discovered at the wooded area about 11pm that night.

The man is being questioned at Dundalk Garda station where he can be held for up to seven days under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

The dead men were thought to be drug addicts rather than major players in the drug trade.

Mr Burnett had scores of convictions, including for many chaotic crimes such as robberies and muggings associated with efforts to raise money on the spur of the moment to buy heroin.

Mr Redmond had between 50 and 60 convictions but mostly for minor crimes. In one case he was charged with stealing kegs of beer from a pub.
