Two men were airlifted from the scene of a Co Roscommon crash after their car overturned and landed on its roof in a river.

The pair sustained serious injuries and were flown to Sligo General Hospital.

The single-vehicle crash took place at about 7.30pm near Mountallen, Arigna, Co Roscommon. The car went through the barrier at a T-junction, fell down a bank and landed on its roof in a river.

One of the men is in his late 30s and the other is in his early 40s.

Gardai at Boyle have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.
