Dockers at the Shannon Estuary port of Foynes want compensation for any of their members let go because of proposed changes in work practices at the port.

They are supported by the former Fine Gael minister for the marine, West Limerick TD Mr Michael Finucane, who said a financial package must be put in place.

The dockers are to hold a meeting to discuss a consultants' report which, if adopted, could result in their numbers dropping to less than one-third of present levels.
