Jerusalem - A bitter circulation war between Israel's two main tabloid newspapers yielded its first casualties yesterday, when the former editor and deputy editor of the country's biggest-selling daily, Yediot Ahronot, were convicted of wire-tapping a rival, reports David Horovitz.

Moshe Vardi, who stepped down as Yediot's editor when the scandal broke two years ago, was given a suspended jail term and a 4,000 shekel fine (£803). His deputy, Ruth Ben-Ari, was fined 10,000 shekels and given three months of community service.
