Teachers, students and parents in the Limerick area - prepare to be surveyed. A project on Barriers to Computer Science for Women in Ireland has just been undertaken as an area of study at UL's College of Informatics and Electronics. Postgraduate students Rosemary Bradley and Helen McQuillan will aim to explain in their thesis why women are consciously resisting entry into computer science. Their project will involve questionnaires and interviews with girls, parents and teachers in second-level schools in the Limerick area as well as former graduates of computer science and lecturers. It's hoped that the information will inform policy recommendations to improve the curriculum for girls in second-level schools.
