USI presidential candidate Bob Jordan received a boost to his chances of election to the presidency last week when UCD student representatives indicated their support for him.

Jordan, who faces competition from DIT president Colman Byrne for the presidency of the national students union, received support from the majority of student council members at last week's UCD hustings. UCD students represent the second largest voting block in USI behind the DIT.

While hustings continue this week, early indications are that Jordan appears to be doing well, despite a sniping story in a national magazine last week which had the sticky fingerprints of Fianna Fail on it, a situation more favourable to FF-er Byrne than the more left wing Jordan.

Byrne will be hoping to reduce any deficit at tonight's, DIT hustings and final voting for the presidency takes place next weekend, March 21st-24th, at the Ardlaun hotel in Galway.
