The Minister for Defence has acknowledged the Government's embarrassment that the Taoiseach could not keep an appointment with the UN Secretary-General last month because the Government jet was grounded, Marie O'Halloran reports.

The Minister said the aircraft, which was bought 10 years ago, had some corrosion on the tail and so the annual overhaul, which usually takes two weeks, meant it was out of action for longer.
