Regina Felloni, the convicted heroin dealer who was returned to Mountjoy prison yesterday morning, will serve a maximum of 14 extra days in jail for escaping while taking a driving lesson. Felloni (24) was found in Phoenix Park on Monday evening, apparently under the influence of drugs. She received overnight medical treatment.
A spokesman for the prison service said Felloni could be subject to disciplinary action by the governor. Her pre-release programme, which allowed her to take driving lessons, has been suspended pending a full report. It is understood the pre-release programmes of up to six other women prisoners who also take driving lessons outside the prison will not be affected by Felloni's escape. She fled from her prison escort after asking to use the lavatory of a fast-food restaurant near the prison while returning from her lesson.
The spokesman said Felloni had also forfeited her right to a 25 per cent remission on her six years and nine months sentence for having heroin with intent to supply. However, the maximum penalty for the single incident is up to 14 days. Felloni had been due for release early next May. Her internal privileges may be suspended for up to two months at the governor's discretion. This could mean loss of visits or recreational time in the evening.
