A fire at the headquarters of the Jesuit Order in Dublin this afternoon caused extensive damage to the property.

Six units of the Dublin Fire Brigade were required to bring the fire under control.

The fire started just before 1pm yesterday at Loyola House in Eglington Road, Donnybrook. Roads were closed off in the area and traffic diverted as fire crews arrived at the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it broke out in an upstairs room and engulfed the upstairs section of the building and the roof, which was completely destroyed.

A small number of priests live at the centre but no one was injured.
