A man who died in a crash in west Dublin this afternoon was the fifth person killed on Irish roads today following two separate collisions in Co Cork.

Two men died in a crash involving three cars on the R576 at Gurraunawarrig, Co Cork between Kanturk and Newmarket at around 7.30am this morning.

They were later named as Gerard O Keeffe (25) and James McAuliffe (39) both from Newmarket.

A woman who was in the car with them was injured and taken to Cork University Hospital. A third man was cut from his car and taken to the same hospital.

Two other men died when their cars collided in Mitchelstown this afternoon. The men, both in their 40s, were the sole drivers of their vehicles, which collided head-on at about 2pm.

They were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies removed to Cork University Hospital. A post mortem will take place tomorrow morning.

Details of the man who died in Dublin have yet to be revealed. He was taken to Tallaght hospital after he was involved in a two-vehicle collision at Newlands Cross on the N7 at Clondalkin at around 3.30pm.
