Gardaí have named the man who died after he was stabbed outside a pub in Irishtown in Dublin last night as James Kavanagh (34), from Bridge Street in Ringsend.

Mr Kavanagh, who was known to gardai, was stabbed outside the Seapoint House public house at around midnight.

He was taken to St Vincent's hospital in a car by a man who did not leave his name and died of his injuries a short time later. That car is being examined by the Garda and the driver is being interviewed.

Mr Kavanagh had a 15-year-old daughter.
