Gardaí have named the man who died in crash in Co Cork yesterday evening as Cornelius Linehan (81).

Mr Linehan, from Fermoy, was the tenth person to die on roads, North and South, since Friday.

He was pronounced dead in hospital after the bicycle he was riding collided with a lorry at 4.45 p.m. at Corrin on the N8, two miles outside Fermoy.

Seven people died on roads in the Republic despite a large-scale Garda operation aimed at limiting road deaths for the bank holiday weekend.

The death brings the number of road fatalities in the Republic to 215 for the year so far, a decrease of 18 on the same period last year.
