A gunman killed five people in a Salt Lake City shopping mall yesterday evening before he was fatally shot.
Details of the gunman's death were not disclosed, but the city's Deseret Morning Newsreported on its website that he was killed by an off-duty police officer who was in the mall at the time.
The shootings in the western US city began about 8.45pm at the Trolley Square mall in the downtown area, witnesses said.
Salt Lake City police said there were multiple injuries.
